Depending on the car, you might have to shift before the optimal shift point comes up in order to get the best gear shift. Some cars will spin the tires when you shift in the green, no matter how many tire upgrades you buy, so the best bet with these is to shift one light down from the green, or even two lights down from the green if you are dealing with an extremely short gear.

As you continue racing in this game, you’ll start to get the hang of which cars are best earlier or later in the race. Certain cars, such as the BMW 2002tii, will take off later on in the race, flying right past you, while other cars, such as the Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing, have incredible power early on in the race, but have a very low top speed. Change the timing of your nitrous boosts to correspond with where your car’s optimum power range is.

For example, if you are driving a car, such as the Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing, which has almost all of its power during the first half of the race (and more than enough traction to handle it), then that’s when you should be using your nitrous, because that is when it will have the biggest effect. If you use it when the car dies out in the second half of the race, the effect will be minimal.

Conversely, if you are using a car that has most of it’s power in the second half of the race (such as a BMW 2002tii or a muscle car), or it tends to lose traction within the first two gears (such as the Mercedes-Benz 280SL Pagoda) use the nitrous in the second half of the race when your car is already exhibiting loads of pull. Doing this will gain you a LOT of come-from-behind victories.

In order to save stamina, don’t waste turns against the crew members and the crew bosses by losing over and over. Instead, when you do lose, write down their last time. Then upgrade your car when you get the chance, and start doing runs in regulation mode to see what times you put down, and to earn cash in the process. Then, once your average time starts to beat the times of the crew bosses that you lost to, go back and race them for a sure victory.
