As you gain experience levels, you’ll be able to unlock more of everything. You will unlock more crops, more animals and animal pens, more buildings, and be able to build more of the same building. You need various supplies for upgrades, though. For the barn and silo, which are the only two buildings that can actually be upgraded, you need hammers, nails, planks, screws, bricks, and paint. Each upgrade to the silo will allow you to hold more crops at once, while each upgrade to the barn will allow you to hold more of everything else.

Expansions will allow you to not only increase the size of your farm, but to get to new buildings. Expansions require you to have old maps, land deeds, and expansion permits, and The first one that you will come across is the store on the bottom left, which will allow you to sell crops and other items. Literally, you can sell EVERY item, be it expansion supplies, animal feed, building supplies, or whatever else. Unlock the news stand, and you can buy items from random people’s stores as well.

There is a large social aspect to the game as well. Tap on the icon in the upper right corner of the screen that looks like the American Gothic painting, and you’ll be taken to a social menu. Under the Community section, you’ll be able to go to random people’s farms and help out. Any building that has a heart over it can be tapped to “help out”. Any building that is sparkling is a building that has already been helped out. Tap on their stores to see what they have for sale.

Everybody in the community area will be organized by their social rank, from highest to lowest. Social rank is measured by hearts, and the way to increase your social rank is to go to other people’s farms and help out the “heart” buildings. The higher your social rank is, the higher your chances of getting visits to your farm and store very frequently.

You’ll be able to send invite requests to anybody who you visit, which will allow you to add them as neighbors. Once they respond to your add request, they will show up in the Neighbors tab, as will a quick link to their stores.
