You can automate almost as much of the gameplay as you want in 9 Innings 2014 Pro Baseball, but you will earn no rewards for anything that you automate. For the maximum possible point rewards, cards, and other rewards, your best bet is to do all of the pitching, hitting and fielding yourself. It takes longer to play games this way, but you’ll earn more rewards allowing you to perform better during the season mode.

In pitching mode, it’s easy to get clobbered if you don’t pay attention to what you are doing. Your strategies should vaguely mimic real life baseball strategies. Aim toward the corners of the strike zone – the closer a pitch is to missing the plate, without actually missing, the better. Change speeds by switching up the pitch types often so as to confuse the batting AI. Different batters will have weaknesses against different pitches and different pitchers will have their own strengths that need to be accounted for.

In batting mode, you don’t have to aim for the pitch location – you only have to time them. Be patient at the plate, first of all. Take balls in order to force the pitcher to throw you strikes, and take bad strikes in order to get better strikes. The more that you work the count, the more tired that a pitcher will get, causing them to make mistakes. The pitches closest to the middle of the plate are the ones that can do the most damage when you hit them.

Depending on a player’s strength, switch between the normal swing, upward swing and downward swing. Fast players do best with downward swings, while power hitters do best with upward swings (actually, upward swings more commonly land as base hits for all players). If you are not sure what to use, just use the normal swing. Use bunts to sacrifice an out in order to move players up a base or to squeeze a quick run home if you have less than two outs.

Points and net points are two different currencies. Net points are used for trading. Put your own players up on the market in order to earn net points. Generally, the more popular the player, the more others will be willing to shell out for them, but search your players in the market to see what their average market values are relative to the strength of the card. Then list and sell them. Keep selling your backup players to earn enough net points to get the players you want.
