Even though the game gives you the option to autoplay every bit of it, including hitting and pitching, you are better off doing it all yourself. Not only will typically score more runs and have control over when to switch out players and who to switch them out for, but you won’t earn card point bonuses or bonus cards for the parts that are autoplayed.

Each pitcher has a stamina rating which decreases after every pitch thrown, so try to drain your opponent’s stamina by taking numerous pitches and forcing them to throw a lot of pitches per at bat. When their stamina drains into the yellows and especially the red, that is the time to strike, because it becomes far easier at that point to take walks and get more hits, especially doubles and home runs.

Against tough pitchers, if you still want to earn lots of bonus card points, get the first guy on base and then bunt with the next batters to earn a quick 80 points per bunt. However, to really rack up bonuses, use downstrokes to hit lots of singles and keep the innings going for a long time, because for each player who has a 4 hit game, you earn around 800 card points.
