At the beginning of the game, you will be able to choose between two different heroes, the warrior and the wizard. No matter which one you choose, though, the store you will show weapons and armor for both to the heroes. Do NOT buy any rods or orbs if you are the warrior, or swords and shields if you are the wizard. You will take a huge loss of money and will be unable to equip them, and even if you sell them you will only recover a fraction of the money.

Instead, go to the materials section of the store, start buying various runes (attack, defense and life runes) and start using the forge menu to upgrade your current weapons. Do this before even attempting to buy new weapons and shields/orbs, since there is no level limiter to the runes.

When you have yet to unlock multi colored cards, it makes no difference whether you play your cards automatically or manually. However, when you unlock multicolored cards, play them manually so that you can play one color or the other depending on what your opponent has left. Still, though, it won’t make too much of a difference, seeing as the biggest difference in winning vs losing comes not from your cards but from your equipment.

Max out your coins by ignoring the arcade mode and playing in the arena as often as possible, only playing in the arcade enough to complete quests. Use the coins that you earn in the arena to buy better equipment and to use the forge to upgrade our equipment so that you can very quickly blow through arcade mode.
