You can not only purchase new weapons, but you can upgrade the ones that you already have in the same weapons menu. The first upgrade should be to the pistol. The upgrade will give you the Golden Gun, which does more damage, and has a faster firing rate. And it still has unlimited ammunition. With this, you won’t need to switch weapons as often. This is also true for upgrading the knife to the katana if you are more of a short-range attack artist.

Pick up as many power ups as you come across. The coin magnet is self-explanatory, while the speed boost will skip you ahead for awhile, and the shields will make you invincible for a few seconds. When you have the speed boost, be sure to keep an eye on what’s going on in front of you so you don’t end up in the weeds immediately after you finish with the boost.

You can tell how much damage you have taken by what your character’s avatar looks like. The bloodier her face is, the worse off she is. Collect hearts to heal the damage. Collect all the hearts that you see. Once you kill a boss, they will start spilling coins all over the place, making for a huge reward.
