Pictured here is the brand new, beautiful, Alfa Romeo 4C concept, which is set to be revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show starting tomorrow, but has been leaked out early by Alfa Romeo itself.
This is the first time the concept car has been seen in a color other than red. This new design is a “fluid metal” color with the colors of the Italian flag on the mirrors, so everyone knows where your car came from. The silver color of the car complements the sensuous curves of the design very, very well.
The engine will be a 1.75 liter 4-cylinder turbocharged motor borrowed from the Alfa Romeo MiTo GTA hatchback that puts out over 200 horsepower, and the weight will be kept to below 1,900 pounds, making this the spiritual successor (and the much better looking successor) to the outgoing Lotus Elise and Exige. Alfa Romeo says to expect a sub 5.0 second run to 60, as well as a top speed of over 155 MPH.
The 4C concept makes heavy use of aluminum and carbon fiber to keep its weight down, and with its mid engine, rear wheel drive layout, it will certainly make for a formidable competitor to the Porsche Cayman and the Porsche Boxster, as well as any future Lotus replacement to the outgoing Elise and Exige.
Alfa Romeo says that the first examples of the new 4C will begin to arrive in European showrooms during the first half of 2012, with American showrooms receiving the same car during the second half of 2012, as a 2013 model. Pricing can be expected to start between 50,000 and 60,000 dollars for the American model, making this the cheapest mid engined Italian sports car that you can buy.
Expect a formal debut along with all kinds of new information to come out once the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show kicks off tomorrow.
