The most important part of avoiding getting beat is knowing how to time your jumps right. The longer that you hold the screen down when you tap it, the longer that you jump for and the higher that you jump. A super short tap makes for a super short jump, while a long tap makes for a high jump.
Make sure to use the dash well too. Do the dash by swiping forward in the direction that Sackboy is running, and you will run straight over the sticky gum pits. If you don’t dash or jump over them, you’ll get stuck, leaving you at risk of getting eaten by the monster.
In fact, if you want to get as far as possible in as short of a time as possible, simply dash over and over again as far as you can, as fast as you can and as much as you can until an obstacle or enemy comes up and you have to do a jump or a dash to get past it. Then once you pass the obstacle, do it all over again.
Purchase a costume if you want to go for the highest score possible. Each costume will increase your multiplier, with the more expensive costumes accounting for the biggest increase in multipliers. Get aviator costume tokens and you can get the best costume (but it requires a ton of them).

You can spend your bubbles on lucky chests and on mega lucky chests to find aviator coins, which can then be used for extremely advanced costume purchases. Other bubble expenditures include upgrades to your three power ups – the magnet, which automatically sucks bubbles toward you. You have to purchase the glider and the jetpack to unlock them, and then after that each one can be upgraded up to five times.
