From the beginning of the game, there is a lot to do, so a good way to keep it straight is to go to the Captain’s Tasklist and follow the tasks. Not only will they lead you where you need to go as far as building and expanding, but they will also earn you chests as rewards when you complete them. Unlike the chests that you unlock with time, these Captain’s Tasklist chests will be available to open immediately.

Always look around your seaport for barrels. When you tap a barrel, you’ll earn an instant reward that can consist of coins, fish, iron, ore, or even gems. You’ll also often find sailors here, and you always need more sailors in order to go on expeditions, so tap the barrels whenever you see them pop up. Often many of them will pop up at the same time, and even after you tap all of them, more of them will pop up within the span of a few minutes.

Buy more ships whenever you can so that you can send them out on more expeditions at the same time. Be sure to upgrade your ships, as well, so that they can hold more cargo per expedition that you send them on. Plus, upgrade your main dock and you can add more ships to your active fleet at the same time.

In addition to all of the upgrading and building of resource buildings, warehouses, and the other kinds of buildings that you need to construct in order to keep your town going, always be sure to upgrade your town hall whenever you can. When you upgrade your town hall, you will be able to build new buildings, and you will be able to upgrade your existing buildings higher, as well as to build more of them.

Crowd your buildings as close together as possible to put off the need for expanding your seaport. Expanding will have to be done eventually, but it will cost a lot of gold and resources, which could otherwise go to better use on filling your existing space – unless the expansion will earn you a Tasklist reward that’s worth more than what you spent on it. Fill the space that you already have first, in order to keep it as cost-efficient as possible.
