To start with, go to the single player mode (The Academy) and play there. You can earn up to two stars per lesson, and each round teaches you something new in order to prepare you for the multiplayer modes. Play these and you’ll not only gain levels, but earn coins. When you play on a betting round, you lose what you wager if you lose, but if you win you double what you had originally bet as you collect the bet of the other player as well. Stay away from the betting rounds until you learn how to putt on a hill, as this tends to be the toughest part. If you’ve played other golf games before, the mechanics are similar, so it should be easy enough to figure out on the fly, but if you’re not experienced with other golf games, do more rounds in the Academy first.

Not only can you win more equipment, but you can also buy it in the shop. When you get a higher letter grade in equipment the decision is easy, but when you get the same letter grade, compare the stats between the two pieces of equipment, so that you can equip the one that has better stats. Don’t neglect the Golf Bag section too because you’ll be able to equip multiple categories worth of equipment in here such as club covers, balls, bags, etc.
Don’t neglect clothes upgrades, too, as these are also able to increase your stats. Hit the shop and you can buy clothes, too. You have to tap the “equip” button multiple times in order to get it to work. Clothes do more than just change your look.
There are different methods to upgrade your clothes, compared to equipment. For your equipment, buy fittings, and you can use them to upgrade your stats. For clothing, you have to take other pieces of clothing and extract materials from them. Once you do, then you can use those materials to upgrade your currently-worn clothing.
