If you want to score the highest possible score on a stage, play the level over and over right from the beginning, so you finish it quicker every time that you play it. The quicker you finish a level, the more points you earn from the time bonus at the end of it. This also earns you lots of stars, and saves you from having to backtrack later on in order to load up on the stars.

Once you run out of energy you won’t be able to play until the energy is restored enough to play at least one round. Connect to Facebook and find a lot of friends to ask for energy. Your best bet for this is to use a secondary, games-only account, add fans of this game and of The Blacklist in general, and add them via friend requests. You can also find people on the review pages of the app store.
Gems are the premium currency of the game. If you want to get gems quickly, the fastest way to do so is to pay for them via in-app purchases, but if you want to load up on gems without spending any money in real life, go to the main menu and hit the video icon, or go to the IAP store menu and hit the left button, which offers you free gems for watching a video. When the video is done you get one gem, and you can watch as many videos as you want.
This is good to do when you are waiting for your energy to come back as well. Watch videos and then spend the gems to get more cash, which you can then use to get boosts. Or, you can spend the gems in order to get more energy, and speed along the time that it takes until you are able to play again.
You can purchase either three extra hints, a max combo boost, or slow down the drain of the combo bar. All of these boosts cost cash, but if you watch the ad video before the stage begins, you will get one of the boosts for free. If you plan on buying boosts, buy them only when you really know that you will need them as they will be gone when you use them, regardless of whether you actually make use of them within the level or not.
