Every time that you get a new car, take some time to go to the regulation races, which are the easiest races, and race at least 5 times or so, so that you can get a hang of when the gear shifts occur. Some cars will have shift points that will be way before the redline, while others will be right on the redline, and still other cars will have optimal shift points that are actually past the redline.

At the end of the final crew battle of each tier, you will have a chance to race against the boss again. If you win, you will get their car for free, but if you lose, you’ll lose a substantial amount of gold. This is by far the hardest race of the tier, so don’t even attempt it unless your car is fully upgraded before you engage in the final crew race. Overprepare for this one, because getting a free car is the best deal that you can get in this game.

Don’t underestimate rival cars just because they look like crap. Some of the fastest cars that you will race against will be ones that look like unloved cars, but actually have tons of upgrades under the hood. Go by the difficulty level indicated on the race selection screen rather than going by the look of the car.

Even after you beat the boss of a certain tier, go back to the previous area and keep going through the ladder races. Ladder races earn you more and more cash with each one that you do, and the quarter finals, semifinals and finals will earn large enough amounts of cash to be able to buy a better car on the next tier that you race in.

Generally, the more horsepower a car has, the higher the top speed will be, even if the car is a heavy car, like the Dodge Charger R/T. Races tend to be easier to win with a car that has a higher top speed (higher horsepower). If you use a very light car, then the top speed will usually be fairly low, unless it’s a light car with a lot of horsepower per pound.

As you go forward into different tiers, decals will become more and more expensive. It can make it easier to save your gold for the second or third tier and buy one of the premium decals there (to earn a huge cash bonus) instead of spending it in the first tier, since upgrades in the first tier are cheap.
