In the purple world, you’ll be dealt a random hand of plant cards, and then typically, this is the hand you have to use and if you don’t like it, tough luck. However, if you shut down the game at any point during the level (not minimize it, but shut it down completely), then you will be able to restart the stage with a brand new set of cards.

Once you unlock the Spikeweeds, use them EXTREMELY liberally, because they can be a perfect combination with other plants to block zombies from attacking you. Zombies step on them and take damage, so if you put one in front of a Wall-Nut, all of the zombies that the Wall-Nut or other wall type of plant is blocking will get damaged by the Spikeweed. Planting a potato mine in front of a wall-nut is another good way to annihilate a massive amount of zombies in the same lane.

Having trouble beating a level? Memorize what lanes the zombies come in (and when they come) because they always come in the same order, at the same time, in the same lanes. Use this knowledge to pre-plan your method of attack, and to plant more heavily in the lanes with more zombies in them.

On tougher levels, fill all of your lanes up with plants that hit multiple zombies at a time, such as snap dragons and threepeaters. Each one of the plants hits multiple zombies at a time in multiple lanes, so if you put them in every lane, they’ll bombard zombies with more shots than they can handle.

On the levels with the Treasure Yeti, if you lose him the first time (or are about to lose to the zombies on said level), then hit restart on the level and he will come back. Since zombies come back in the same pattern, he will come back in the same lane, so remember which lane he was in the first time, and LOAD that lane with powerful plants. Then when you beat him, beat the rest of the level to earn the treasure. If you don’t beat the level, you’ll lose the treasure, but you can restart it if you are about to lose.

Alternatively, just save all of your plant food for the Treasure Yeti’s lane, then annihilate him by using it on multiple plants of yours in the same lane.

If you want to load up on sunshine early on, then start using your plant food on your sunflowers for loads of instant sun. This will enable you to build up your garden very quickly right from the get-go.
