Gems are the premium currency of the game, and are required in order to get more crew members for your boat, as well as to upgrade the crew members who are already on your boat. It’s typically more cost-effective to upgrade the ones that you already have, but you will need to splurge on more crew members if you really want to make big strides in the game. Each crew members equals one automatic rod, plus they will come with their own bonuses that are unique specifically to them.
You can get free gems by opening the gold boxes; however, another way to get them is to consistently watch the videos that allow you to spin the wheel for a 2x, 3x, or 4x bonus. Each video that you don’t earn the jackpot on will add to the jackpot, and if you spin a 3x or 4x bonus, you will get a free gem. Once you hit the jackpot, you will be absolutely flooded with gems – the amount depends on how many pre-jackpot spins you take.
Some small bonuses can be purchased in the gems menu (inside of the anchor icon) that can have a big effect. One of the most effective 5-gem purchases is the Epic Action one, which will make the Big One (the epic fish) appear automatically in whatever sea you choose. So you can use this to make it appear right away in one of the more advanced seas, or to make it appear for a repeat go in one of the beginner seas.
Make sure to log into Facebook via the anchor menu. If you do that, all of your fish will automatically be worth 250% of every other bonus that you have. Plus, this helps in a big way when you’re trying to catch the Big One, and can enable you to catch it in a more advanced sea than you would be able to otherwise.
Once you do that, you will be listed as one of your own crew members, meaning one more automatic rod. If you want to upgrade, though, you can’t spend gems. You have to have more people invited via Facebook. So you can either invite one of your other accounts to it, if you have multiple Facebook accounts, or you can invite your friends. It’s recommended to invite people who like fishing or who like clicker and idle games.
Enter in the tournaments if you think that your crew members are strong enough for it. Your goal in the tournaments will be to catch fish and make money. You will have a limited amount of time to catch fish, and you’ll have to come up with the best mix of upgrading and money-earning in order to earn one of the top scores in the tournaments. You can win gems, money, and other bonuses via these tournaments.
