If you get enough balloons, you will be able to use your boost. You can use your boost to speed away from an opponent, or to smash into an opponent and kill them without doing any damage to your own car. If you use your boost, though, you’ll drop balloons, so if you want to collect the most balloons, then don’t use your boost.

Instead, your main method of killing other cars should be to use your items wisely. Green tires and red tires are great killers, as they mirror the function of the green shells and red shells in Mario Kart. Drop decoys to trick people into running into them, but watch out that you don’t also run into them by accident.
When someone gets blown up, drive over to their area, because they are about to drop a ton of balloons, and possibly a large amount of items depending on how many they happen to be holding at the time. If you have a magnet, now is the best time to use it, so that you can drive towards the car that just got blown up, and suck up all of their balloons rapidly.
Your score at the end of the round will depend on three factors: your balloon total, your number of kills, and how many bonuses you pick up (bonuses are the golden soccer balls that you can pick up occasionally). The higher the score, the more experience you gain at the end of a round, and when you fill up the circular experience bar, you gain a level, allowing you to unlock bonuses such as new cars or new paint jobs.
Wait until you have a ton of balloons to start using the boost at all. When you have a big stash, use short bursts of boost to smash into other players and wreck them, especially after you pick up the magnet power-up. Then drive around and collect all of the balloons that they drop, and repeat until you have a ridiculous score.
