The method of play is simple to describe, but difficult to actually do. You have to land on the normal surfaces, avoid the spiked surfaces, and stay away from animals, volcanoes and other things that can kill you. As you get farther into the level and the rock and spike surfaces start popping up next to each other, you’re going to have to start planning your steps in advance in order to make sure that you don’t die and that you can set actual high scores.
Use your pickaxe to hit things for bonuses and for ease of climbing. If you hit an eagle with it, or another animal with it, the eagle or the other animal will fly away. If you see a gem buried in the ground, hit the gem and you’ll collect it. If you hit the spikes or regular blue snow, your weapon will dig in in a normal fashion. If you hit a patch of white snow, you’ll have a second or two before it avalanches away.
You can use the gems to unlock new characters. The game will stay the same, but the character and the weapon will change appearance, and the weapon can even sometimes be completely different (such as a hammer instead of a pickaxe). You can spend 400 gems to unlock a specific character, but unless you know the characters, the better expenditure is to spend 200 gems on unlocking a random character. Save the 400 gem purchase until you start getting duplicates due to how many characters you already have.
The quickest way to earn gems, by far, is to watch the video ads in exchange for 25 gems apiece. Aside from those, there are a few ways to earn free gems, most of which involve interacting with the game on social media. Tap the Facebook icon in the game to earn 50 gems, and tap the Instagram icon in the game to earn another 50 free gems. Collect the word “SNOW” in the game itself to earn 150 free gems.
If you want to make the perspective more like games that you’re used to, then tilt the phone so that you can play from a horizontal perspective. Change the tilt of the phone as the mountain gets steeper. That can make it slightly easier to keep up with what’s going on in the game without having to change your perspective, depending on how you like to play.
