The fishing portion of the game, of course, is extremely simple. All that you have to do is cast the line and wait for a fish to bite it. Common fish will bite and can be refilled up instantly, and they will give you runes and experience points.
When it comes to rarer fish, such as two stars and above, you will need to change out the bait of your fishing line, and the way to do that is to use a common fish as bait. When going for rarer fish, it’s very easy to lose your bait if your line gets bit by a common fish, so try to fish most of the crowd of common fish out of the way first before going for the larger and rarer ones.
The bait works the same way as the rarity of the fish increases. For a three star fish, you need three star bait, which is earned by using a two star fish as bait. For a four-star fish, you need four star bait, which is applied by using a three star fish as bait. And so on and so forth.
The deeper that you fish, the more rare the fish are that you have a chance of finding, and the more rooms they will be worth. In order to fish longer and deeper, upgrade your fishing rod. Upgrade your rod, your line, and your reel in equal proportions. Once you hit the upgrade limit, go and gain experience levels to unlock more upgrades.
Occasionally, there will also be a special fish that pops up, such as the sausage fish. You won’t need any extra special bait with them, but they will only show up for a limited amount of time, and you have to navigate through a sea of normal fish in order to catch them. However, if you harvest them, they will be worth a massive amount of runes.

In order to upgrade your house, your shipyard, and other things, you will need wood, nails, stones, and other objects. One way to find them is by running over them with your fish bait, as they can often be found floating in the water. if you catch all of them in the water, then leave the fishing area and come back, and they will refresh.
Another way to get more of these objects is by going to the trading post. You can trade runes for all of these different items. It may seem to get expensive, but this will put you well on your way to the upgrades that you want.
Some upgrades are simply locked down until you level up enough. Leveling up at simple; all you have to do is go to the fishing area and catch fish. Catch fish rapidly, even if they are common fish, and your level will go up rapidly.
To maximize the number of runes that you earn, even if you are trying to go for rare fish, always be sure to harvest common fish. Fill up your fishing net, harvest the whole thing at once, and then repeat until you have enough runes to spend on whatever you need.
