Be sure to not only level them up with hero experience, but also to ascend them in order to increase their base statistics. You can ascend your heroes an almost unlimited amount of times until they hit five stars.
Even though the missions tell you what to do next in order to advance the chapter, go beyond the missions, because sometimes, they will only have you upgrade one of the buildings that you have multiples of. Upgrade all of your buildings as many times as you can; the shelters are one of the best examples of why. Each shelter holds four people, but the more that you upgrade them, the happier that your survivors will be and the harder that they will work.
Set your push notifications so that whenever your offline prizes are full, the game will send you an alert to come and collect them. If you don’t collect them, then they will start piling up until you do, so it’s best to maximize the amount of rewards that you get by collecting them before they max out.
When the major snowstorm is happening, a good strategy is to set your furnace to maximum power in order to minimize the number of survivors that get sick. When the snowstorm is over, then you can go and turn off maximum power in order to conserve your coal.
When you go out into the world after you finally unlock it, you will be able to attack other players and defend your own settlement against their attacks, but you will also be able to battle against computer controlled forces, explore and seek out resource areas, and a whole lot more. Be sure to keep whatever you’re doing within your level, so that you don’t lose troops needlessly.
If at any time you want to switch states or change servers, head to the world map area and you will see an overview of the world with all of the states that you can choose from. You will be able to see a list of all of the different states that you moved to you, as well as the requirements to move into the one that you want.
The only downside to changing states and servers is that you cannot take your old character with you. If you go to a new state, you’re going to have to create a new character. Still, though, this opens up a wide range of gameplay and adds new fun to the game that wasn’t there before.
